Chair Anita 2E0DUO is ready to welcome YOU to Hamfest 2018

Well that’s it! Wythall Hamfest is well and truly full.

Our bookings team have today told us that, due to a rash of bookings this weekend, the final few tables have now been taken.

So we are ready to welcome both traders and visitors alike on Sunday 25th March.

A gentle reminder too that you might need to set your alarm clocks a little early, as the clocks go forward that weekend and you won’t want to be late to the party to miss the best bargains.

More news on our Hamfest as the date approaches, but it is looking like being one of, if not THE best, yet!

Exciting talks coming up!

February 14, 2018 By: Chris G7DDN Category: Club, Fun, Hamfest, News

Steve G0TAN with his best friend, an IC-7300!

Advance notice for a couple of events coming up at Wythall Radio Club before the end of the month.

Programme Co-ordinator John G3VRF explains, “On Friday 23rd February, Steve Venner G0TAN, Engineering Workshop Manager from Martin Lynch & Sons is driving up from London to give us a talk on ‘Life on the Other Side’.

He’ll be talking about issues encountered when repairing equipment and why some of that equipment needed repairing in the first place!” Sounds fascinating!

Please note this is a change of evening from our normal schedule, so pop Friday 23rd Feb in your diary and see you in the Darts room at Wythall House B47 6LZ at 8.00pm. Visitors, as always, are welcome.

Following that, on Tuesday 27th Feb, Chris G7DDN will be doing a presentation on “Network Radios – The Next Big Thing?”  This is a fascinating insight into how the latest technology is expanding the range and scope of Amateur Radio. It will also touch on exactly what Ham Radio may look like in the 21st Century. Chris will be giving this talk again for visitors to the Wythall Hamfest on Sunday 25th March, so if you cannot make it on 27th Feb, don’t despair, there is a repeat!

We look forward to seeing you at these events. If you are first-timer, please feel free to come along unannounced – we will give you as warm a welcome as we can!

What a great day! The 2017 Wythall Hamfest was once again a great success.

Thank you to all the traders who came along, to all of our visitors (yes you!) for making the trek to our neck of the woods and of course, to our Hamfest team of volunteers who worked so hard to put the event on.

Thanks too to Wythall House for hosting the event, Burger Bob for his great selection of food and drink and to PC Albutt and the local constabulary for their great support too.

We will soon post photos of the day below – keep checking back over the next few days as we continue to add more!

It’s Hamfest Time!

March 18, 2017 By: Chris G7DDN Category: Club, Fun, Hamfest, News

Empty today, Radioworld tomorrow!

The time has almost come – Wythall Hamfest is upon us.

Tomorrow from 10am, you can join hundreds of fellow enthusiasts in browsing the many stalls, catching up with friends, eating the tastiest burgers in the Midlands(!) or sampling the real ale in Wythall House’s real ale bar (from noon)

Alternatively you could just buy a new radio! Why not? Radioworld will be there!

And the really great news is that this year, wait for it, there is loads of free parking!

Traders will be crammed in here in the morning!

Yes, we have secured use of Wythall Park field for on-site parking – so there’s no need to park in the streets nearby, just follow the street signs and the marshals’ instructions and we will park you close to the exhibition halls.

This year’s Hamfest will be the best ever – don’t miss it!

See you tomorrow!

Radioworld to headline at Wythall Hamfest

January 13, 2017 By: Chris G7DDN Category: Club, Hamfest, News

Great news today for fans of the Wythall Hamfest – local dealer Radioworld are going to be our headline trader for 2017.

Dave and Annette Hayward from Radioworld confirmed today that they will be in attendance for our next Hamfest on Sunday March 19th.

Annette is definitely the prettier of the Radioworld trio!

The Radioworld family have been friends of the club for many years but sadly couldn’t attend last year due to the move to their fantastic new shop near Cannock.

But this year normal service is resumed, and together with son Sam, they will be looking to meet friends old and new and helping you out with that new Rig you’ve been promising yourself, maybe an Icom IC-7300?

You could even contact them now and pre-order to pick up on the day!

Remember the date, Sunday March 19th at Wythall House, Silver Street B47 6LZ.

The fun kicks off at 10:00.
