Join our Club
We welcome new members, whether or not you hold an amateur radio transmitting licence.
If you don’t hold an amateur radio licence, joining a club is a good way to start on the path to a Foundation licence.
We offer:
- A group of friendly and knowledgeable radio amateurs
- A social or topic-based meeting every Tuesday evening
- A practical/problem-solving/operating meeting on the third Friday morning each month
- Regular talks, hands-on demonstrations, operating sessions and themed discussions
- Advice on equipment/operating, including help with diagnosing/solving problems
- Special events – including portable operating in Wythall Park, exhibition stations at public events, communication sessions for youth groups, etc.
- Club HF and VHF equipment and antennas for use by members during club meetings/events
- Club 70cm FM and 2-meter SSTV repeaters
- Our e-mail reflector for notification of upcoming activities, discussion of radio-related topics, and any questions/advice from members
- Club DX challenge table – record countries you have contacted, with weekly update and discussion on the reflector
- Club Christmas and Easter contests – contact other members and score points/multipliers to win certificates and trophies
- Special activity periods – e.g. QRP January, where we see what members can work using low power
- Lively web-site with regular posts and access to our archive of newsletter articles
- Opportunity for small groups of members to organise their own radio activities, such as SOTA, portable operating, visits to retailers and amateur radio rallies/RSGB convention.
Membership is only £30 p.a. If you are interested in joining us, ask for a membership form by e-mailing us at wythallradio@gmail.com
You’re welcome to come along to the club before signing-up – let us know by e-mail or just turn up on a Tuesday evening and ask the Wythall House bar staff to point out where we are (don’t forget to register your car number plate in the bar to avoid parking charges).
Members who regularly come to Wythall House meetings are encouraged to join Wythall Community Club, the family-friendly social club who host our club and support Wythall Park, the base for many outdoor radio activities. Membership is only £19 p.a. (£16 for over 65s) (2024/25).
